A best selling author plans to win a bet by writing a novel in less than 24 hours. Seeking solitude, he goes to a summer resort in the dead of winter but his stay at the Baldpate Inn is interrupted by a steady stream of visitors…each bearing “the only key to the Baldpate in existence”. Crooked politicians, bribe money, blackmail, true love, betrayal, double cross, a reporter’s news scoop, and a friendly wager collide in this mysterious, melodramatic farce. Encore! Encore! is a Northern Colorado non-profit theater troupe that have performed at Baldpate in years past. Their annual events include the Father/Daughter Butterfly Kisses Valentine Dance, Lost Marbles Theatrics student production and comedy a show in the fall at Lincoln Center in Fort Collins.
In this murderously funny play, ex-spouses Paul and Polly Butler write murder mysteries together. They act out the crimes in Paul’s apartment: poisoned chocolates & le-thal martinis, alibis & fingerprints, bodies in a trunk & bodies all tied up, daggers, guns & even an axe all contribute to the hilarity. Nobody gets hurt, but their egos take some hits as they find that their marriage was mixed up with their work & learn that marriage like murder, is in the details.
