The Baldpate Inn 2020 Summer & Fall Seasonal Employment

HOWDY!  Thanks for your interest regarding employment at The Baldpate Inn during our 2020 Summer & Fall Season.  Following you will find a description of our business and an outline of our employee setup with open positions.  As well detailed job descriptions are available for each position by clicking on the job title.

Baldpate’s official opening day for our 2020 season is planned for Friday, May 22, 2020 and we will remain open in the fall until October 10, 2020.  We welcome applicants that can commit to our entire season, but will give consideration to all applicants if they can commit to at least 10 weeks during our season.  Please notes that Managers must be available for the entire season.   Applications will be accepted until March 31, 2020.

Of special concern to us is the time period in which you would be available.  Since many of our busiest days are over holiday weekends, it is critical that our employees can work then.  We will need several staff to arrive early in May to prepare for opening and a select staff to stay through mid October to close; some school schedules preclude these options.  If arriving early in May or staying into October is a possibility for you, please be certain to indicate so on your application.

Of special interest to you, especially if you are considering a rotating position, is what tips you can expect to earn in addition to your monthly wages.  Most rotating staff average at least $250+ per week in dining room tips (less in June, more in August, most in September).  Several specialized positions (Assistant Cook or Front Desk) and our management positions (Hotel, Kitchen, Events or Dining Room Manager) are especially targeted for internships and have a set beginning salary.

We look forward to the chance to share with you the very special enchantment of the 2020 season at The Baldpate Inn.

The Baldpate Inn is a small historic bed & breakfast hotel with a restaurant and museum on nearly 15 acres of private property.  The Inn is located seven miles south of Estes Park, Colorado, on the scenic ‘Peak to Peak’ Highway 7, and is next to Rocky Mountain National Park.  Baldpate has 12 guest rooms in the main lodge and four cabins and one home to accommodate up to 50 bed and breakfast guests.  One wing of the main lodge and two additional cabins are reserved as staff housing.  Our popular restaurant has two adjoining dining rooms, which together can seat 100 guests.  In addition to serving breakfast for our B&B guests, our dining rooms are open to the public seven days a week serving continually from 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM.  Along with our specialized daily menu of gourmet soups, salads, homemade breads and pies, we often cater wedding receptions and special dinner parties.

The Baldpate Inn is home to both the Baldpate Key Collection and the Baldpate Photograph Collection so many tourists visit our lodge each day just to experience these unique attractions.  We are fortunate to have numerous national media features in past years: Bon Appetit, July 05, Jan 95; Country Inn, Aug 90; Art & Antiques, Dec 90; Country Living, Aug 91; Woman’s Day, Apr 92; Forbes, Oct 93; Independence, Summer 95; Discovery Channel, Dec 93, Mar 94, Nov & Dec 96; Taste of Home, Jun 01, Treasures of Colorado, 05, Great Country Inns of America, 4th Ed 06, Colorado Forks in the Road, 07, Spirit Magazine, ’13, CBS Sunday Morning, Mar 18

As a family owned and operated business, we hire approximately 30 college and high school students, who desire to serve the vacationing public and who will fit in as ‘adopted’ members of our family.  ‘Family’ members are expected to behave and dress appropriately at all times.  The use of tobacco is not acceptable as Baldpate is a non-smoking inn.  We will not tolerate substance abuse, to include alcohol misuse.  Dress code requirements vary according to assigned duties, ranging from jeans to dressier black & white attire for special dinner events.

We offer several employment options: Positions with Salary plus room & meals (1) Live-in Rotating, (2) Front Desk Associate, (3) Cook & Baker, (4) Manager: Hotel or Events & Dining Room; (5) Museum Curator Intern; and Positions with an hourly wage (for individuals who live in the Estes Park area) (6) Live-out Rotating Staff.  Live-in staff will typically work 48 hours per week with one day off each week.  Live-in Rotating Staff salary begins at $500 per month plus dining room tips and housing & food valued at $850 per month.  Beginning salaries for Front Desk ($950), Cook ($950), and Manager (as agreed) positions also include housing and food.  Live-out staff will begin at an hourly wage plus dining room tips for a mutually agreed number of hours per week.  To review specific job descriptions for each position for which you wish to apply, click on job title.

For either Live-in or Live-out Staff, dining room tips are generally not pooled, instead you keep what you earn.  All housekeeping tips are pooled and spent on special staff benefits.  Most staff will rotate daily through a variety of positions, which include wait staff, maitre’d, housekeeper, dishwasher, kitchen assistant, laundry and maintenance.  Work time during the day will vary also, depending on your scheduled duty.  Actually this variation of work time is often to your advantage, as you may have early shift the day before your day off, and then late shift the following day.

The Baldpate Inn enjoys an excellent reputation for our especially hardworking caring staff.  We invite you to consider joining our ‘Baldpate family’ for the Inn’s 103rd season in 2020.

TO APPLY: Please complete our application on line at then send your recommendation letter from a former employer or professor, along with an optional photo.

Applicants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign their application.  Former Inn employees need only to submit an updated application form.
